Several hurt in coordinated militant attack in Kabul

(28 Nov 2018) Taliban insurgents staged a coordinated attack in the eastern part of the Afghan capital on Wednesday, with a suicide bomber detonating his explosives and fighters then engaging security forces in a gun battle. At least 11 wounded were transferred to hospitals from the attack site, according to a spokesman for the Public Health Ministry. A Kabul police official said initial reports indicated the target was a compound of a UK security company, but could not provide any other details. An eyewitness speaking close to the site of the attack said it happened near a US base in the capital. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement posted on Twitter. The militant group carries out near-daily attacks on Afghan forces. The US and NATO troops formally concluded their combat mission in Afghanistan in 2014, but still provide close support to Afghan forces and carry out counterterrorism operations.
