The main theme for TEDxStetsonU 2014 is "Significance in Action: Creating Learning, Innovation and Happiness". Sam Slaughter graduated with a B.A. from Elon University in 2009, and has worked as a City Year Corps Member, teaching fourth grade students. He is currently pursuing his MA in English at Stetson University, and is working on completing his first novel. The title of Sam's talk is "Cannibalizing Your Friends and Family: Significance in Fiction Writing," discussing the importance of pulling apart life experiences and reassembling them in a way that creates significant, memorable stories. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
