A little flavor of the Tree Lighting ceremony and festivities in Mariemont, Ohio.

Listen carefully during the visit to the petting zoo. Our host told us Santa left chickens after he told her she was too heavy to sit on his lap. One child proclaims he is Ichabod Crane, and a teenager declares 'pull...pull...it's a new savature!' (in regards to my granddaughter pulling on the goat's leash). It all came to a quick end (just about on time, actually) when the snow turned to a wet, soggy rain (near hail). Between that and grandmother duties, I didn't get as much footage as I'd like. But you'll notice I did get plenty of footage of the horses ;).

One of the first planned communities in the United States, the village of Mariemont was incorporated on July 12,1941. It is well-known for its charming historic architecture, lush foliage, parks and green spaces, award-winning schools and friendly, community-minded residents. Founded in the 1920s by Mary Emery, Mariemont exhibits English architecture from Norman to classic Georgian style. Bell Tower Park offers chime concerts on Sundays throughout the summer months. The village square serves as the community center with red brick Tudor buildings, including the Mariemont Inn and historical Mariemont Barber Shop.In 2007, the Village was designated a National Historic Landmark.

Mariemont is a place; but it is also a concept. Some people refer to that concept as the Mariemont Story. From the day that it's founder, Mary M. Emery, laid the first shovel to the Village, the Mariemont Story began.
