The quest to develop smaller and more effective diagnostic devices is ongoing. Can a small heart monitor -- no larger than a postage stamp and much thinner -- be deployed to anticipate heart problems in high tension situations? In particular can these devices be used in highly-stimulated individuals such as the military, fire fighters, and police as well as in the general population? Starobin is an Associate Professor at the Greensboro Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering . He is working to improve the quality of electrophysiological data collection that will lead to smaller, smarter and less costly devices for monitoring and predicting heart activity.
