I appreciated the energy J.Cole​ brought to his first time performing solo in Melbourne. But I gotta be honest, J Cole entire performance as a whole was "good"...that's pretty much it. It feels weird not being overly enthusiastic and positive but you can't fake the funk. After attending nearly 20 shows you become more critical and discerning of what qualities make a great show and what makes an average show.

While I'm not a huge Cole fan like some others may be I love and respect his music and character immensely. The supporting acts were super entertaining and overall probably one of the best supporting acts I've ever seen with a lot of his #Dreamville crew opening for him.

But if we just talk about Cole's performance alone, the prison cell set was intriguing at first, but got old quick as you realized the visuals were largely stagnant and not interacted with at all. The lighting stayed largely the same and I'm still not sure whether it was a smart move to have Cole's face zoomed in on the screen right behind him. If you compare what Kanye did with Yeezus that's an example of a much more creative way to use a back screen.

In any case Cole provided an energetic lively performance for the most part. Song selection was questionable at times, especially when he decided to play 'Folding Clothes' 😶 and only 10 seconds of Forbidden Fruit...

He also took quite a bit of time to talk to the crowd imparting them on his philosophies and perspectives behind certain tracks which was appreciated at first but dragged on at times as the crowd got anxious for another track. All in all - a good performance. - Alexander Sandalis​
