This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Why does Beacon, NY, need a community cafe? Inspired by the pay-what-you-can cafe model, Fareground will be a place where all people are welcome and everyone eats delicious, nourishing food.

Margot has been a professional whole foods chef for 18 years and a nutritional counselor for 13 years. She founded Fareground Community Kitchen with her partner Kara Dean-Assael, a social worker. Her passion is cooking for people, all people: from homeless punks in Tompkins Square Park to hedge fund managers in their Upper East Side mansions.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
