Kadomatsu. Considered one of the best known, traditional New Year's decorations, the Japanese kadomatsu refers to the "gate pine." 


Believed to welcome the ancestral spirits of the harvest, kadomatsu is placed in front of Japanese homes from Christmas until January 7.
