Adejire Bademosi traces the inspirations and motivations that led her to create the FoundHER program, which helps young women in Boston develop critical thinking and civic activism, and the Taking Back the F-Word [feminism] Symposium, which raises money to fund uniforms for girls in Nigeria to be able to attend school. Adejire encourages us to take action and make a difference in the lives of others -- locally and globally. Adejire Bademosi is a sophomore at Boston College majoring in International Studies. A Maryland Native, Adejire has been an advocate for over 12 years. Much of her experience comes from her political positions in the county, state, and international levels. In 2008, Adejire became the first African American woman elected as a student on the Howard County School Board with partial voting rights representing over 250,000 people. In 2009, Adejire taught students in Bulgaria the importance of civic engagement through developing and moderating an simulation. In 2010, Adejire was recognized by the White Ribbon Alliance for her commitment towards empowering girls and women. Currently, Adejire is the Executive Director of the FoundHer Program and the Taking Back the F-Word Symposium. Both programs leverage community resources and talents to empower girls and women to become leaders across sectors. About TEDx, x = independently organized event: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
