Manfred Schmid began training to be plasterer around the time the Federal Republic of Germany was founded. Starting from scratch,he built up his own business in the southern German city of Esslingen. Today his son Martin manages the company,which employs almost 90 craftspeople. And Martin's son Markus is trying to build on the legacy left by his father and grandfather.
