Turn the ballpark purple with PanCAN and the Reds on June 7

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - This weekend kicks off the unofficial start of summer and a local group trying to help fight cancer is asking you to come out and enjoy a night with the Cincinnati Reds.

What's better on a great summer night than a great game of baseball?

On Wednesday June 7th, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is asking you to come out and support pancreatic cancer research, and turn this stadium not red, but actually purple.

“I lost my uncle 9-years-ago to this disease and I want to just keep fighting and raise money for the cause,” said Brian Hall, a PanCAN volunteer.

Brian Hall and volunteers from PanCAN met up with Local 12 at Great American Ball Park to share more about we can all help turn the park purple.

“This is our seventh year doing this, the first six years we raised over $55,000 for pancreatic cancer research,” said Hall.

The research may not have come soon enough to save Lori Viola’s brother, but she goes to the PanCAN game every year.

“My brother Ken Faulhaber was diagnosed in 2010 and passed away in 2014,” Lori said, adding that she goes to the game “Because I am doing it from my heart, for my brother.”

This year a 10-year survivor of pancreatic cancer tosses out the first pitch, a reminder that if we all keep waging hope, then someday long term survival will be the new norm.

That game is June 7th and the tickets are just $18.

Half the money goes to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the money goes to research and families in the local area.

If you can't attend the game, you can still purchase a ticket through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. The money still goes to research, and the ticket goes to a child at the Boys and Girls Club of Cincinnati.
