Chance is a Grey-Headed flying-fox juvenile rescued from beside a busy road by a bat rescuer who just happened upon him while driving home from work. He had significant air hunger probably secondary to pulmonary contusions. This video is to show what respiratory distress looks like in a bat - cheek puffing, audible clicky breathing. Oxygen therapy in an O2 box got him through the critical time. A lot of effort went into getting him the oxygen. The vet had a bottle they could give us but it was very low and wouldn't last the night, so I went and bought a new bottle, which apparently had a different connection to the gauge from the one the vet had. Then an emergency trip out to a 24 hour vet at midnight, who were happy to have him enclosed in an oxygen box and residing there for the night, and when we collected him in the morning he was awake and breathing better and his gums were pink not the horrible grey-blue previously. Chance is a lucky batty who was released about 2 months after coming into care.
