Marcel Duchamp popularized the concept of the found object art (or Readymade), where art is created from collecting everyday items. The skill is in the hunt rather than the manipulation of the item itself. Although the objects can be modified, they are not changed beyond recognition and still retain their original form. This is effectively what I do when I seek out old postcards online and at fairs. I find postcards that already have a natural propensity for animation so that I can minimize the post editing. Rather than removing the imperfections, such as creases and ink blemishes, I prefer to leave them in because I feel they add to the charm and authenticity of the finished animation.
