Photoactivation of metal complexes presents relatively unexplored potential for the discovery of new chemistry with applications in biotechnology and medicine. Philosophical Transactions A has published an issue illustrating the accelerating progress in this highly interdisciplinary and emerging field, including the challenges of introducing metal-based photochemotherapy into the clinic.
