Johannesburg, September 4 -- The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) sudden change in stance on the Marikana miners has called its prosecutorial independence into question once again. The NPA has provisionally withdrawn murder charges against 270 Lonmin miners. Constitutional Law expert, Pierre de Vos, says that while there is no evidence of political interference, the NPA will have to start demonstrating it is making decisions based on law, rather than politics, in order to preserve its integrity.
