At present the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s disclosure requirements require quarterly filing but Trump has asked for the possibility of half-yearly reports. A switch which could see securities reporting over the course of a year halved would move the US closer in line with the European Union and United Kingdom. President Trump said on Twitter that meetings with business leaders had convinced him that the change would give companies more flexibility and help them to reduce costs. The move came at the urging of executives including PepsiCo Chief Executive Indra Nooyi, reigniting a debate about how often companies should give financial updates to investors.
