The Roman philosopher Seneca said that people do not die, they kill themselves. Nothing could hold more truth since all deaths are indeed suicides unless they occur by accident or murder. We are suicides because we comply with the notion that we must live in this world the way everyone else does: cereal, a bagel and coffee in the morning; sandwich or soup at lunch; something out of a box or even fresh-cooked for dinner. Our words become our actions that become our habits that become our character, which ultimately becomes our destiny. We become what we believe we are. Embrace the change that will allow you to be what you want to become. We must learn to live in the moment, for what you can be today, not what you might be tomorrow. Accumulated “tomorrows” produce empty yesterdays.

Daily affirmations are powerful tools that remind us of our goals. Like prayer, they encourage and inspire us. They reaffirm the purpose of our existence and give us an inner confidence that whispers in our ear that we are doing the right thing, traveling the right path. a couple of my favorites are “I am ever younger as each day passes” and “My mind is free to think beyond boundaries”.

Anyone can change a single habit, but to dramatically rebuild the foundation of your life is a proposition that few of us can manage because it requires dismissing all that we know, deprogramming everything we learned in childhood from those we most trusted, our parents, family and role models. But what have been bred into our bones are habits that never allow us to live anywhere close to our potential as they hurry us all to an early ruin.

Unless our health has left us and we are in physical ruin, we will never wake one morning and no longer wish to go on if we have a purpose to our lives. And we will never obtain true purpose without becoming acquainted with our interior-selves and having a relationship with God.

Once you achieve the level of physical health discussed in this book, what remains to complete the picture is cultivating a positive mental attitude, which will be enhanced by exploring your own spirituality. Great Health cannot be achieved without possessing a positive mental attitude. If your mind is against you, you don’t have a chance of being healthy or accomplishing the various goals you set for yourself. As we begin to put the right things in the body it becomes easier for the mind to motivate and inspire us, which is one of its central functions. With all this comes confidence and when confidence is combined with skill, you become unconquerable.

The mind is a critical component that can thwart our best efforts to be healthy. A negative attitude will drag the body down with it. Our mind and spirit have the final say in our health. A typically healthy body can be destroyed by disease if there is a breakdown in the human spirit. On the other hand, every function of the body is greatly enhanced when the mind and Spirit are focused together on the same affirmative goal of staying healthy and living to the best of our ability. We need to exercise the spirit the way we exercise the body, consistently, habitually and with determined purpose. Undoubtedly, great confidence will follow.
