Bushfires are continuing to burn across the states of Victoria and New South Wales in Australia's southeast despite alert levels being downgraded by local authorities. Around eighteen fires are still burning and vast areas of land have been scorched by the flames. Many homes have been destroyed and people in some Melbourne suburbs have been advised to evacuate. Fire services are doing their best to battle the fires using helicopters to drop water bombs from the sky. There are fears the fires could carry on into next month as temperatures reach over 40 degrees Celsius in some areas. Report by Jessica Savage.
