Using science to help sledge hockey hopefuls

Alicia Gal is a Carleton PhD student who is bringing science to bear on sledge hockey, also known as para ice hockey. She uses sensors and motion capture cameras to study the science behind the sport. Participants sit in a small, tight-fitting sled fitted with a single blade and propel themselves with two short sticks, equipped with spikes on the butt end to grip the ice.
