Johnson Oei is one of the pioneers of EPIC Homes, an initiative that focuses on building sustainable housing for underprivileged Malaysian communities. Coming from a background in business, Johnson's endeavour into the world of social entrepreneurship began when him and his friends made a Facebook event calling for volunteers to help build a toilet and paint some Orang Asli houses. The project was immensely successful and quickly grew from there. Johnson believes that all of his companies' doings must give back to society to make the world a better place.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
