Journalists from Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and Cuba are being honored this year for enduring harassment, imprisonment and danger to do their jobs. The Committee to Protect Journalists singled out five reporters and photographers, and a media lawyer. Among those named is an Associated Press photographer who was held for two years by U.S. forces in Iraq. VOA's Jim Fry reports from Washington where the organization announced its awards on Thursday.
