This is a part of a prime time PBS documentary I made about U.S. Navy sailors and how they go to sea for 6 months at the time. I spent quite a bit of time with my crew on the aircraft is John F. Kennedy filming this. As I was editing this film, it occurred to me that country music was the best way to express the feeling of leaving home these men experienced. I used language that I have heard the men say. The song was written by Iris Boaz. It was recorded by Navy music bands throughout the military. The documentary was the 2nd highest rating PBS documentary of that year and got excellent reviews. Very satisfying.
