This video elaborates on an improvising/composing idea one of my students had come in with. This student is studying songwriting and home recording so I showed him how to use the Digitech looper (a simpler recording and looping device than most home recording setups) to add harmonies to the original phrase. This idea can be used in several applications, including coming up with an appropriate next section to add to the same song. The key is Em and the scale the notes are drawn from is an E Pentatonic minor scale due the presence of E G A B and D notes, the 1, b3 4 5 and b7 notes relative to the 1 (E) and the lack of F# and C notes (2 and b6) that would make the scale a natural minor.
