NO! This is not the same song I uploaded yesterday, but is another version of that song with a different tune and chorus and tempo. The lyrics are similar, and in one or two verses, identical, but significantly different in others. The gist of the story is however the same, i.e. Paddy or Patrick is employed on the railways. Such men were originally employed on canals where they were called 'navigators' or 'navvys' for short. They were tough hard-working and hard-drinking men mainly of Irish stock who did all the manual work involved in constructing a canal or a railway. They dug cuttings, built bridges, dug tunnels and laid track using mainly picks, shovels and wheelbarrows. They opened up the country to these forms of transportation enabling goods and people to travel at greater speed and comfort than in previous days. By the way, in the chorus, I sing 'Billy me-oo' where in other versions it is sung as 'Philly me-oo'
