Economist, Dr. Roger Hosein, says the Government should not be transferring resources to State-owned Enterprises. Dr. Hosein made the comment at a "Conversation on the Future of Petrotrin" on Friday, hosted by the American Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago. Quoting statistics, Dr. Hosein said as at 2016, there were 61 State-owned Enterprises in Trinidad and Tobago. He further noted that in 2007, State Enterprise debt was 38.7%, while in 2016 it was 35.7%. Public Relations Consultant, Denise Demming, agreed with the argument by Dr. Hosein. She said the governance structure for State-owned Enterprises needs to be replaced so they are no longer dependent on the Treasury. Ms. Demming also blamed politicians and the five-year cycle for killing State Enterprises.
