Twenty vehicles were vandalized Saturday night in a Blue Springs neighborhood, police said.

The vandals knocked off mirrors and broke windshields in an area south of Highway 40.

Investigators said the cars appear to have been bashed with a bat or a crowbar.

"It's crazy that nobody heard anything. That had to have been pretty noisy to get this much damage done," said Dave Sullivan, whose damaged car was parked in front of his home. "It was hit with something -- there was nothing thrown in it that we could find inside the car, but it was broken with some kind of blunt object and broke the glass. It actually broke inside on the console, so it was hit pretty hard and probably pretty frequently for them to do what they've done."

The damaged vehicle belongs to Sullivan's 16-year-old son, who works after school to earn the money to pay for it.

"It's his car, his baby, he makes all the payments, he works his butt off for it and is pretty upset," Sullivan told KMBC's Peggy Breit. "He just couldn't believe it. He's just so upset. He's just frustrated, mad, angry."

The Sullivans have insurance, but it carries a $1,000 deductible.

Police said the vandalism appears to be random.

"I can't comprehend why somebody would do this kind of thing," Sullivan said.

Anyone with information in the case can call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hot line at 816-474-TIPS.
