While our search is still in its infancy, we haven't yet found any obvious signs of intelligent life in our galaxy. One reason could be that any advanced civilization out there may not have made it past a stage in its development where climate change became an issue. As technologies advance and use more resources on a planet, care needs to be taken that the planet's carrying capacity is not overwhelmed. This could lead to the demise of a civilization and prevent it from expanding to the stars. Our guests for this hangout have done some modelling on the possible consequences of advancing technology and its effects on the host planet. Please join Tony Darnell and Carol Christian as they discuss this interesting work with Adam Frank University of Rochester Jonathan Carroll-Nellenback, U Rochester and Lindsey Valich, the team members of this recent study.
