1. Railway Passengers could be shelling out more for choosing lower berths and travels during festive seasons, if the recommendations of a fare review committee are approved by the Railway Board.
The panel constituted to review the flexi-fare system in premium trains has recommended that the transport behemoth adopt the dynamic pricing model followed by airlines and hotels, sources said.

Like flyers pay more for front-row seats, railway passengers too could be paying extra for seats of their choice, the sources said.

There also could be an increase in fares of trains which have "convenient" timings and are more popular on a particular route, they said.

The committee has also recommended that instead of having flat fares, the railways should increase fares during festive seasons, and reduce them during lean months.

It has also suggested that passengers be offered discounts on trains reaching destinations at inconvenient times, for example between 0000 and 0400 hours and 1300 and 1700 hours, they said.

2. The Indian Railways keep coming up with brilliant ideas from time to time to make things manageable and easy. Now the Indian Railways is planning to use drone-mounted cameras to keep a check on traffic, rescue operation activities, track inspection and infrastructure related projects.

The news was announced via press release issued by the Indian Railways. As per the press statement, the West Central Railways (WCR) headquarters in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh will be the first to get the equipment and trial runs will be conducted after the procurement. The trials have been done in Jabalpur, Bhopal and Kota.

While booking e-tickets through IRCTC website, elderly passengers (above 60 years for men) and women passengers 45 years of age and above, have to choose the lower berths option in the main page. “Lower berths earmarked under senior citizen and women’s quota in the respective classes by default will get allotted to them. If the berths are already booked, they will be given berths under general quota,” said official sources.

In April 2016, to reduce the ordeal of elderly people climbing upper berths, railways earmarked four lower berths per coach in Sleeper class and two lower berth per coach in Air Conditioned three-tier (3AC) and Air Conditioned two-tier (2AC) classes for senior citizens, women passengers who were 45 years old and pregnant women when travelling alone.In case of Rajdhani, Duronto and fully Air Conditioned Express trains, four lower berths were earmarked per coach in third AC class.

4.Indian Railways is likely to borrow a record Rs 42,000 crore in 2018-19 to fund its capacity expansion programme.

The amount, to be raised by the Indian Railways Finance Corporation (IRFC), is Rs 7,000 crore or a fifth more than the total borrowings of the national transporter in the current fiscal.

The ministry plans to utilise the funds for high traction projects such as doubling of important freight corridors, electrification of tracks along dense routes and procuring of rolling stock including German technology based LHB passenger coaches and electric engines, officials said.

5. : The wait for that much-delayed train might just get a tad bearable, thanks to the TVs, beverage dispensing machines and light refreshments that will soon be available at Indian Railways' waiting rooms.
As a pilot project, the Delhi Division has been asked to undertake the upgradation of its waiting rooms by providing modern facilities for passengers.

6. Just like air travellers, railway passengers planning their journey in advance could get cheaper deals, if the recommendations of a fare review committee are approved by the Railway Board.

Similar to the modus operandi of airlines, which offer heavy discounts to passengers if they book their tickets months in advance, the committee, officials said recommended discounts from 50 per cent to 20 per cent depending on the number of vacant seats available at the time of booking.
