Video by Heather Williams, Williams Dwight Whitney Professor of Biology This video clip shows a male Savannah sparrow singing on a windy day on Kent Island, a Canadian island in the Bay of Fundy. It was obtained by getting inside a small blind and then, while "wearing" the blind, gradually creeping closer to the bird's favorite singing site. This male was banded using the protocol set up by Bowdoin College's Nathaniel Wheelwright, and you can see a yellow and a navy band on his left leg (closest to the camera). His right leg is somewhat hidden, and carries another yellow band as well as an aluminum numbered U.S. Fish and Wildlife service band.
