The world’s greatest rainforest, Amazonia, is also one of its most vital life-support systems — and it is under threat.

Environmental decisions in Brazil strongly impact our lives. The country is home to nearly two-thirds of the world’s largest tropical rainforest. But deforestation is on the rise. In 2015, an area of forest almost twice the size of the Grand Canyon was lost in the Brazilian Amazon alone.

Conservation International’s goal is to achieve zero net deforestation in Amazonia by 2020 to protect essential resources, mitigate climate change and increase prosperity for people.
