Minnesota Indian Gaming Association Protests Gambling Expansion

Tribal gaming and government employees, vendors and supporters rallied yesterday outside the Minnesota State Capitol to protest gambling expansion proposed by the state legislature. The rally highlighted the fears of thousands of tribal employees who could lose their jobs if the legislature adopts any of the gambling expansion proposals now on the table. Both tribal leaders, and several legislatures, addressed the crowd. Minnesota Indian Gaming Association (MIGA) representatives checked in a total of 55 buses yesterday, each carrying 50-60 people. Based on that figure, they estimated the crowd at between 2,750 and 3,000 — despite yesterday's miserable weather conditions.
