It's official, no more Scratch bombs. The Minister of National Security Stuart Young has signed the Explosives (Prohibition of Scratch Bombs) Order 2018, in keeping with Cabinet's announcement on November 22nd to officially ban scratch bombs into Trinidad and Tobago. The Order prohibits persons from manufacturing, importing, keeping, conveying or selling a scratch bomb. Persons found breaching the Order may be liable upon indictment, to a fine of 20 thousand dollars or ten years imprisonment or forfeiture of the items. Mr Young when he announced cabinet's decision to put the ban on scratch-bombs had said it was something the public had been calling for. In November, the Ministry of Education placed a zero tolerance policy on scratch bombs after a Secondary School teacher was hospitalised for injuries caused by a scratch bomb thrown by students. During Divali celebrations this year, a scratch bomb also resulted in the fire of a home which left nine people homeless.
