Akhery Monazat/আখেরি মোনাজাত | Tongi Ijtema

The first phase of the three-day 53rd Biswa Ijtema, the second largest Muslim congregation after the Hajj, will end with the Akheri Munajat (concluding prayer) on the banks of Turag River in Tongi on Sunday.

Senior most Imam (Pesh Imam) of Kakrail Jame Mosque Mawlana Md Jubaer will conduct the concluding prayer seeking peace, happiness and well-being of the Muslim Ummah anytime between 11:15am to 10:45am, said one of the organizers.

“Around 2 to 2.5 million people from all walks of life, including cabinet members, lawmakers, professionals and political leaders, are expected to join the Akheri Munajat before the Zohr prayers,” said Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Professor MA Mannan.

Earlier on Friday, the Ijtema formally began with “ambayan” (general sermon) after Fazr prayers at dawn amid tight security.

Noted ulema-mashaekhs in their sermons called for following the guidance of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. The sermons were translated into different languages of the world.

The Bishwa Ijtema (Bengali: বিশ্ব ইজতেমা, meaning Global Congregation) is an annual gathering of Muslims in Tongi, by the banks of the River Turag, in the outskirts of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is now the largest Islamic congregation at 5 Million; easily surpassing the second largest now being Hajj which was formerly the largest Islamic congregation at 2 million and 3 million. It is one of the largest peaceful gatherings in the world. The Ijtema is a prayer meeting spread over three days, during which attending devotees perform daily prayers while listening to scholars reciting and explaining verses from the Quran. It culminates in the Akheri Munajat, or the Final Prayer, in which millions of devotees raise their hands in front of Allah (God) and pray for world peace. The Ijtema is considered a demonstration of Muslim unity, solidarity, mutual love and respect and an opportunity to reiterate their commitment to Islamic values.

The Ijtema is non-political and therefore it draws people of all persuasion. It is attended by devotees from 150 countries.[3] The majority of its devotees come from across Bangladesh, the world's third largest Muslim majority country.

Speakers include Islamic scholars from various countries.

১৯৬৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে প্রতি বছর এই সমাবেশ নিয়মিত আয়োজিত হয়ে আসছে। বাংলাদেশে ১৯৪৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দে ঢাকার রমনা পার্কসংলগ্ন কাকরাইল মসজিদে তাবলিগ জামাতের বার্ষিক সম্মেলন বা ইজতেমা প্রথম অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। ১৯৪৮ খ্রিস্টাব্দে চট্টগ্রামে তৎকালীন হাজি ক্যাম্পে ইজতেমা হয়, ১৯৫৮ খ্রিস্টাব্দে বর্তমান নারায়ণগঞ্জের সিদ্ধিরগঞ্জে ইজতেমা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। তখন এটা কেবল ইজতেমা হিসেবে পরিচিত ছিল। প্রতিবছর ইজতেমায় অংশগ্রহণকারীর সংখ্যা বাড়তে থাকায় ১৯৬৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দে টঙ্গীর পাগার গ্রামের খোলা মাঠে ইজতেমার আয়োজন করা হয়। ওই বছর স্বাগতিক বাংলাদেশ ছাড়াও বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশ থেকে ধর্মপ্রাণ মুসলমানরা অংশ নেওয়ায় ‘বিশ্ব ইজতেমা’ হিসেবে পরিচিতি লাভ করে। ১৯৬৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে বর্তমান অবধি ‘বিশ্ব ইজতেমা’ টঙ্গীর কহর দরিয়াখ্যাত তুরাগ নদের উত্তর-পূর্ব তীরসংলগ্ন ডোবা-নালা, উঁচু-নিচু মিলিয়ে রাজউকের হুকুমদখলকৃত ১৬০ একর জায়গার বিশাল খোলা মাঠে অনুষ্ঠিত হচ্ছে। প্রতিবছর বাংলাদেশের প্রত্যন্ত গ্রাম-শহর-বন্দর থেকে লাখ লাখ ধর্মপ্রাণ মুসলমান এবং বিশ্বের প্রায় ৫০ থেকে ৫৫টি দেশের তাবলিগি দ্বীনদার মুসলমান জামাতসহ ২৫ থেকে ৩০ লক্ষাধিক মুসল্লি বিশ্বের দ্বিতীয় বৃহত্তম আন্তর্জাতিক ইসলামি মহাসম্মেলন বা বিশ্ব ইজতেমায় অংশ নেন। ১৯২৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দে মাওলানা ইলিয়াস [রহ.] ভারতের উত্তর প্রদেশের সাহরানপুর এলাকায় ইসলামী দাওয়াত তথা তাবলিগের প্রবর্তন করেন এবং একই সঙ্গে এলাকাভিত্তিক সম্মিলন বা ইজতেমারও আয়োজন করেন। বাংলাদেশে ১৯৫০-এর দশকে তাবলিগ জামাতের প্রচলন করেন মাওলানা আবদুল আজিজ। বাংলাদেশে তাবলিগ জামাতের কেন্দ্রীয় মারকাজ বা প্রধান কেন্দ্র কাকরাইল মসজিদ থেকে এই সমাবেশ কেন্দ্রীয়ভাবে পরিচালনা করা হয়।
