This is a part of the Summer Railfanning Series.

Mother Nature unleashed her wrath tonight with quick-to-develop storms out of the Everglades that trekked over to the East Coast. Meanwhile, CSX had theirs unleashed with an elusive coal train.

95 coal loads

These coal loads are what you see on my Y220 videos down the Lehigh Spur. They go to the Cemex Miami Cement Plant in Tamiami.

Miami coal trains from CSX often get routed through Corbin, KY and down the AB&C (now CSX) and the Manchester Sub in inland Georgia. This one, sneaking up on us in an unusual fashion, was routed down Erwin, TN, through South Carolina, and to Savannah, GA. From there it was a Nahunta straight shot and on to Baldwin, Wildwood, Lakeland, and Miami. Check out the works of Benny, Joe Robinson, and Rudy, who also caught this train up route.

Hinted by the firm Approach Limited on Track-2 NB, and the Stop on Track-2 SB, a northbound CSX train was coming off of the Miami Terminal.

25 empty manifest
This train in retrospect, with the hoppers, Opera centerbeam, and bulkhead empties would look very well like a classic train coming off the Homestead Sub!

I had to yell out to the guy on the cell phone (who asked me what I was doing earlier) that he had to step out of the yellow line. Trains have an extremely tight squeeze on station platforms and he was close to a side-swipe.

CSX Q452 had much of the empties I missed out on a Lehigh move on Monday, and one yesterday. A nice way to make up for it.
