This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Jaime Richards describes the distinction between passion and pleasure. He discusses how people should foster a mentality to pursue passion rather than settling for what they have. Jaime Richards is a San Francisco Bay Area teacher, coach, and writer. For the past 30 years, he has taught at every level -- elementary, middle school, high school, college, adult school, and in special education. For 12 years, he wrote his "What It Takes" column for the Bay Area News Group newspapers. Currently, he is publishing his fourth book, Missing Pieces -- The Vital Lessons Our Schools Don't Teach, and his interactive What-It-Takes.com website explores what it takes to live a happy, meaningful, and impactful life. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
