United Nations, 23 March 2010 - Today is World Meteorological Day and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is marking its 60th anniversary. The Organization today released its report on the status of climate in 2009. It finds that 2009 was the fifth-warmest year on record since the beginning of instrumental climate records in 1850. It also shows that the decade from 2000-2009 was warmer than the preceding decade, which in turn was warmer than the 1980s. WMO website: http://www.wmo.ch/worldmetday/
