A compilation of 2 videos at the same location, but going in different directions.. The videos were taken from the cabin of a WAG-7 banker doing duty on the Bhor ghat..

That day I was really lucky.. What is better for a person who loves trains to get a ride in the engine up and down the ghat in the monsoon??? Absolutely Nothing!!!..

DESCENDING THE GHAT:

While coming down the ghat, I was in the trailing engine of the set of 3 bankers. I had boarded the engine at Khandala and got a full driver's view from the windscreen, only thing, going in the reverse direction. We descended the ghats on the mid-line. It was a beautiful experience with the tunnels, bridges, mountains, valleys, fog and mist. On the ghat, we maintained a constant speed of 40-45 km/hr untill Palasdhari. The video shows the view from the windscreen, as we take the giant curve and descend the gradient. We overtake twin WAG-7 bankers on the UP-line. We even accelerate rapidly from 40 to 70 km/hr.

ASCENDING THE GHAT:

While going up the ghat, I was in the same engine with the Assistant Loco-Pilot. The bankers' duty was to push the Bhusawal Pune Express up the ghat. As soon we came onto the mainline at Karjat, the 3 engines roared and accelerated the 17 coach train from 20 to 70 km/hr in no time at all. It was even better acceleration than local trains (EMUs). When the gradient started, we decelerated to 60 km/hr. Watch as we climb up the slope and once again take on the sharp curve. You can see the entire train all the way up to the engine at the front (which was a WCAM-3), as it makes its way into the first tunnel of the ghats. Sorry for shakes during this video. I had to put my camera outside the window of the engine and the wind was really strong.
