Recorded live at the Assembly Rooms, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England on 9 December 2010. Here Billy does a low mood and 'mithered' version of Woody Guthrie's great Dust Bowl classic. Billy Bragg reinterprets the song in a more melancholy way than the original which retains a sort of hollow hopefulness that is missing in this version. When Guthrie sang it he sounded exasperated but defiant, whereas Billy's version has lost all its fight, it sounds more self pitying than the original and therefore less political. That's my view anyway, but its great to hear the song live anyway, so thanks to Billy for that.
