'Tis the season for holiday giving, but with hundreds of thousands of charitable organizations, it can be hard knowing which ones are reputable.

Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon and the Better Business Bureau advise consumers not to donate to charities that eat up more than 35 percent of funds in administrative costs.

Nixon also warns donors to check that a charity is legitimate before giving them any money. There are several online resources available to check out nonprofit organizations.
