Sweden, during its presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2009, won't reopen the debate on the double seat of the European Parliament in Strasbourg and Brussels. Cecilia Malmstrom, now European Affairs minister for Sweden, had campaigned as a member of the European parliament in favor of having the parliament only seated in Brussels. However, for such a decision, a change to the European treaty is required, which is unlikely to be raised at a time when Ireland still has to vote on the Lisbon Treaty.
