After just five days of what has been a gruelling tour of England, India’s busy cricketing season continues. The defending champions will begin their defense when they take on qualifiers Hong Kong in their opening game of the Asia Cup 2018 today. India, who have two back-to-back games starting today, will hope to make quick work of the Hong Kong team as they get ready for the all-important crunch tie against Pakistan tomorrow. The Board of Cricket Control in India had earlier objected to this cramped schedule, which will see India play a maximum of six games in 10 days if they were to go all the way in the tournament. Before we make our Asia Cup match prediction for India vs Hong Kong, let’s take a look at how the two teams will line up

India come to the tournament at the back of a disappointing Test series loss against England. Although the matches were closely contested, India ended up losing the series 1-4 and is looking for an opportunity to get their season back on track. A game against Hong Kong couldn’t have come sooner as the Men in Blue are eager to get back to their winning ways.

Hong Kong, on the other hand, faced a heavy eight-wicket defeat against Pakistan on Sunday. Hong Kong were bowled out for just 116 and couldn’t make a comeback during the match as Pakistan chased down the target with ease. Hong Kong now need to win the match against India and hope that India loses against Pakistan, for them to make it to the Super Fours.

Having lost their opening game against Pakistan, Hong Kong won’t have much to lose and will be putting out their best squad for the all-important match against India. Anshuman Rath will remain Hong Kong’s main man in the batting department with 207 runs to his name in the Asia Cup qualifiers in Malaysia. Off spinner Ehsan Khan looked like the only bowler that took the fight to the Pakistan batsmen. He picked up two wickets and will be Hong Kong’s talisman in the bowling against India as well.

India face a tricky situation against Hong Kong purely because of the mouthwatering clash against Pakistan which happens literally the very next day. While it’s nothing but poor scheduling from the Asian Cricket Council, India does have the depth in their squad to face two teams back-to-back and will be hoping to use it as an opportunity for the non-regulars. Players like Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, and Khaleel Ahmed will all be expecting a run in against Hong Kong, while those who were a part of the last Test match against England, like KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah, might be given an extra day to rest.
