http://www.longplays.org Played by: Ironclaw Release year: 1988 Couldn't find an Atari ST or Amiga longplay of this game. There are only a couple of clips on YouTube where no one has a clue of what to do. Pretty much everyone who's played this game, and the reviews I read don't like the controls. By default it's the mouse you control with, but I had to switch to joystick as that was way easier, but still very difficult. I often run, turn, and float when I don't want to. I struggle with the controls outside the trials/levels as the mouse fights for control over the joystick, but with the settings I chose the mouse can't be used, it just interferes instead (like if you tried to use the mouse to play a joystick game). I even turned off the mouse in WinUAE, which made no difference, also changed its x/y movement to something else, mouse speed to 0, lifting it off the mousepad, nothing worked, it kept being an annoyance. Maybe just an emulator thing. Didn't wanna unplug it as I needed the mouse for WinUAE (recording etc). I read somewhere this game is a port from the Atari ST and how impressed people were that for once it's not just a straight port (which usually suck), but this time they improved it. The Amiga version is faster, prettier and has better sound/music (unless you use MIDI on the ST). On HoL (Hall of Light) they say "Released simultaneously on the Amiga and Atari ST". I usually record as much as possible of a game (entire music, show all text, etc), or make an "extras" video, but couldn't be bothered this time as the game was so frustrating to get through (took my entire Saturday) and it's in French so I don't understand much. There's a bunch of text scrolling when selecting each enemy/trial, and also when a level is completed. Didn't bother with that as it's hard to tell when it loops (would need to type down the starting words and look for repeating ones lol). The goal of the game is to get the required score on each level (trials I guess). Most of them are locked in the beginning, and by completing unlocked ones, the locked ones become unlocked (yeah, could have written that better). Was quite difficult to figure out what to do on some levels. I bet the manual explains the stuff, but it's all in French, so just gibberish to me. Usually read the manuals before longplaying something so I don't miss out on something important. Couldn't see all the controls in the manual (was looking for F1... ESC... and stuff like that, only saw a few basic keys), and if they mentioned how the game worked, like life etc, I wouldn't understand anyway (and manuals don't always mention everything. There have been several games I've read the manual for that leave out keys and stuff I manually find out for myself when playtesting), but by testing stuff I noticed: F1 = brings up the map F2 = brings up something that shows the activity(/,&)density of the enemies in each room. This one I had no idea what it was. Was only now when the longplay is done and I'm writing this that I decided to translate that part of the manual "gibberish F2 gibberish.......". F7 = toggles audio filter on and off F8 = resets the music F9/F10 = rises and lowers the screen P = Pauses the game Return = Throws some type of explosive (let's call it a bomb) Space = Is used to refill bombs and ammo when you are close enough to those special places in the background. Fire button = shoots laser. Holding it down charges up the laser (strength depends on how long you hold it). A charged up shot makes the laser travel further (maybe more damage too). Down and then up on the controller (if you stand at the bottom of the screen that is) makes you float. The red stuff on the left side is health, and the green stuff on the other side is ammo. A bit of health is removed each time you do a charged up shot IF you are out of green stuff. On some levels you have unlimited ammo, but it will always start green and deplete as you use it, but you won't be out of ammo when there's no green left. At the bottom left screen there will be bombs on some levels. As shooting charges up lasers takes away health if the green is depleted, I usually kill myself when I've reached enough score. I have no idea what to actually do on the Vers Bullophages level/trial, so just grinded it slowly until I had enough score. The game has 3 mazes. I had to explore all of them completely and make maps so I would then know where to go, 'plan my route'. Didn't clean it up, but here they are: https://imgur.com/a/vYOHT 04:59 - Novas 06:11 - Virus 11:03 - Aliens 14:57 - Glok 16:04 - Asteroides 17:57 - Fantomes 32:10 - Vers Bullophages 37:05 - Robot Fous 40:15 - Terra 44:00 - Pteros 45:13 - Epreuve Ultime 55:00 - The End (sucks) You can get the manual here if you know French and are interested in the story and stuff http://hol.abime.net/3491/manual - Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!
