The SAFE program in Toronto will allow queer and trans people who don’t feel comfortable telling their friends and family where they’re going to discreetly provide information to ASAAP, an LGBT organization, so that it can inform the police if a person goes missing. “The whole purpose of this is that we value you as a person, and we value your safety, irrespective of who you are,” says Haran Vijayanathan, the executive director of the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAAP).
