Ohio World War II Vet to Get His College Degree

CINCINNATI -- An inspiring story of a man who served his country and is now getting a reward, a long time in the making. In June 1944, Walter Bunker expected to be graduating from college, but instead he was fighting overseas in World War II. After the war, Walter went to work for his uncle. Now 70 years later, Walter asked Xavier University how close he was to graduating and found out he was just two credits short. But Xavier says, because Walter was a lifelong learner, in real estate and teaching and writing, he's earned his liberal arts degree. "I felt a little embarrassed that I could never say I had a degree.'' Walter says. ''I was further put down by all my kids talking about all the degrees they had." The 90 year old will graduate with honors on May 17. Walter is planning to celebrate with his 10 children, 21 grandchildren and Martha, his wife of 65 years. Congratulations Walter!
