Telling children that Children’s Day celebrations are conditional on them not bursting crackers, lining corridors with air-purifying plants, keeping masks handy in the medical room — schools are taking a number of precautions in the wake of pollution levels increasing in the city. At Salwan Public School, the administration decided to take a firm hand in the matter. Before Diwali, local policemen were brought in to talk to students about not bursting crackers. They were also told their Children’s Day celebrations next month will be scrapped if they burst crackers in school or at home. “This year, we have made it clear this (not bursting crackers) is a joint responsibility. We also told them to intervene if their neighbours burst crackers,” said principal Indu Khetarpal.
