Here we head up the ramp from the Nile toward the temple of Queen Hatshepsut. The desolation of the place is quite stark, but keep in mind that originally the entire area was gardened and would have been quite lush and green. 

BTW--you can see the mummy of queen Hatshepsut in the Cairo museum, along with many of her fellow rulers. Where else can you see such history preserved but in Egypt? This stuff is incredible and seeing it right in front of you drives home the transitory nature of human institutions. 

Just think, when all this was constructed and these people were alive, human society and geopolitics were entirely different than they are today. What will human society look like 3000 years from now? Who knows. Footage recorded on June 13, 2012.
