Stabilizing Afghanistan is one of the top issues discussed among EU foreign ministers on Saturday as they meet in Stockholm for their twice-a-year 'Gymnich' meeting, this time under the Swedish presidency of the European Union.

The foreign affairs ministers will discuss how the EU can strengthen the coordination of civil action in Afghanistan and reinforce the EUs work to improve security in the conflict-hit country. Carl Bildt, President-in-office of the Council and Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs has just been to Afghanistan, for the second time in a month, where he met the three leading presidential candidates. He will be reporting from his trip.
The foreign ministers from the candidate countries Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey arrived to participate in a lunch discussion together with the other ministers on the theme of the continued development in the EUs neighbouring countries.
