Helicopter Training, Enstrom Helicopter F-28 F   Here is a short tip that may help you! There is a air cushion when your skids are a few inches above the ground. Be ready to push through this for a nice set down!

Hello everbody!  Kenny with Fort Wayne Helicopters with another basic flight training tip.  Something that I've been suprised that a lot of guys don't know or have never been shown.  Something on of the old-timers showed me a long time ago.

You have an air cushion somewhere around 6 or 8 or 10 inches from skid height down to the ground.  What I did in this video for demonstration purposes only I take my hand off of the collective to show you that if you don't do anything the helicopter will get right down to that cushion and then it will come back up, then it will go back down and then back up. The point being when you get down to the 6 to 8 to 10 inches it takes a small push to get the helicopter to come on down to the ground.  If your coming down nice and smooth, nice and smooth and then things get kind of wobbly because you think the ground should be there and then start messing with the controls and thats when you get the helicopter going all over the place.

Just remember if your coming down with a nice smooth hover you'll get an air cushion and it will take just a slight push on the collective to get on down.  If you come down quick you'll push right through it.
