Bill Baker, veteran of U.S. public broadcasting and the man credited with "discovering" Oprah Winfrey, says a new business model is desperately needed to deal with the decline of the traditional press in the wake of new media forms. The only way forward is to monetize the Web content that people are used to getting for free. The very survival of journalism, so essential to a healthy democracy, depends on it.
