In a time where so much of the national discourse regarding public education is negative, this TEDxKids@SMU conference reminds us of the tremendous power that teachers have to inspire hope and belief in our students. By creating a culture of unconditional belonging, teachers remind students that they are worthy and invaluable for who they are today.  As an educator for 15 years, Matthew Sipes has served as a teacher, coach, campus administrator, and district administrator. Currently, Matthew is the Director of Expanded Learning Pathways for Plano ISD where he works with campuses to provide students with access to non-traditional learning experiences. He is an advocate for student equity and believes teaching is one of the noblest professions. As an Ed.D. student at SMU, Matthew is studying the factors that drive teacher-student relationships and whether students perceive the teaching profession as noble.
