I dreamt of the soccer practise from hell. I was the only coach in a junior team (upper teens). Three guys were hooligans and screaming and fighting as they ran into the (green plastic) field from the club house. I made them play organized in three steps: 1 V shape passing. They weren't allowed to rotate the ball among them but had to pass it on in this pattern like a wall exercise. 2 I made them run the idiot. It's interval running across the field. 3 When they were calm I made a new (I think) game practise for hooligan players, and the first part of the song is a two-step instruction describing what they had to do. It was across the field they ran (50 meters) and used 7-man goals. Then normal practise could begin. The rest of the players played and I watched. The hooligans decided to stay in the team and joined in. Then came a teenage girl and sat on the mat next to me like in a dojo, but I sat on the bench. She was obnoxious (stubborn) and stared right in front of her, unseeing. Then came one more player that was missing earlier, with a boombox. He put it on the mat next to the girl and put it on. It was me singing "I'll ditch her" a capella. The guys wanted rid her, and the second part of the song is about this. The third part of the song is because in the dream I realized there weren't too many players in the team so she had to stay. I had been thinking about the quote "I'll go" from my favorite movie Aliens (1986) during the day and this is a play upon that. Then I woke up. I remembered the melody but it the dream there was only one line. I made the rest of the song and the recording is the first try singing it, with improvised breaks (1987 was also with unplanned breaks). In a week is my 20th anniversary as a songwriter and this song has three new aspects: 1 it's my first a capella try. I would sing it differently with instrumentation. 2 I have just learnt to whistle smoothly and use it as an intro. I don't know why but it took me this long to learn keeping a flowing tone. 3 It's my first song I did not write, but memorized. The song is influenced by 80's rock and (power)pop which was on the radio when I played soccer. For example Touch me is powerpop.
